At some point in college you realize it's dangerous to just coast. You need to be investing in yourself because at some point this blanket of security will end and all you'll be left with is what you have done. Books can be the best way to change your values, world-view, and purpose. I know it's tough to read for fun when the professors assign bogus amounts of uninteresting material. These books however, will actually provide you with some great practical advice that may just change your life. This list will be comprised of non-fiction only. In the next post I'll delve into some great fiction books that carry just as much learning potential.
5. Awaken the Giant Within- Anthony Robbins
Tony Robbins is the ultimate in motivational and inspirational speakers. The way he can craft a message that helps you motivate yourself is insane. This guy has packed a lot of firepower into one book which has been the launch point of many entrepreneurs. I liked this book because the more you read, the more sense it makes, so the more you read. It will really kick off your motivation to start creating your best self. Check it out at the link below.
4. Freakonomics - Steven Levitt and Stephen Duber
I've bet you've seen your dad read this one. This is one the the wackiest, surprising reads you can get. It looks at things in a completely new light and gives you a different view on common events. It will teach you to think differently and most importantly, critically. For a non-fiction book it's pretty entertaining.
3. The 7 habits of highly effective people- stephen covey
This book is required reading in many universities for good reason; it works. Seven Habits gives you the knowledge and tools to get along with anyone. Developing a good habit is hard but once its developed it's almost set in stone. This book will put you well on your way to developing the type of life you want.
2. The 4-hour workweek- Tim ferris
I could write an entire book on how much I loved 4-Hour. You want detailed practical skills on spiking the corporate world and working from home? This will be a gold mine for you. Even if you don't wont to develop an online business this book contains a plethora of great life skills to follow. Tim will get you to think about how you use your time, investments, and money which is just what you need in this stage of life.
1. HOw to win friends and influence people- Dale Carnegie
Classic. That's the one word to describe this book. Even though it was published almost 70 years ago great advice never goes out of style. This will teach you how to deal with any type of person. It will also give you the right mindset in communication. This was a required read in college but I consumed it in record pace just because the advice was so practical. It will go a long way into making you a better person. Below is the link to an updated version for the digital age.
