Here’s the harsh truth: The world only cares about what you can give it. What do you bring to the table? What type of skills, knowledge, power do you have to carve out a life? If nothing then I can safely bet you're in some deep trouble now. The concept of Lifestyle Design is simple, you create things of value for other people and they in turn help you create your desired life. Seems pretty innovative huh? Not in the least. Although currently Lifestyle Design is used to escape the corporate world it was used to succeed in it. This thought is very old and only recently has hidden behind the curtain of laziness and free lunches. Here’s how.
In the past people were paid on not who they were, but what they did. Your success was directly determined by what you could provide of value. No handouts, no one cared if you got your feelings hurt. It was either adapt or die. This social concept kept people on their toes constantly hustling and developing a craft. No one cared that ‘Joe was a good person’. Oh yeah? What did Joe do with his “goodness”. The point is it doesn’t matter what you are on the inside. It matters what you create or do on the outside. “But that’s totally opposite of what we were taught in school!”. Exactly, and see how that’s gotten everyone? Your teachers were only half right. What’s on the inside only matters if it comes out on the outside via our deeds and works. Oh, you say you’re a creative person? Then what have you created? Nothing huh. “But its all in my head”. Exactly, it’s not real.
This is where the concept of Lifestyle Design comes into play. It gives you the ability to craft your own life by what you create. I don’t have to tell you this, but you are judged by your works. You are what you do. For that is the value you bring to the world. Don’t like what you bring? Then change it. Learn a new skill. Take up a new hobby. Starting is easy, mastering is hard. Why does so many people settle for average? Because its comfortable There is no failing involved, no sore muscles or tired brains. It's your choice to decide to create or be something of value; a blog, info product, book, art, surgeon or pharmacist, anything. That is how our grandparents did it and that’s how America use to do it.
Taking a quote from the Bible that is directly true in the world. Jesus tells us over and over again that we are judged by our fruit. “Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.” Matthew:19-20. Jesus was implying this concept to witnessing and gathering people for Christ. Yet the same is true for today’s society. You are paid for what type of value you bring. That’s why the hippies were wrong. We can’t just sit around and everyone just be happy. Things must get done for society to continue. People like us will rise to the top while the hipsters at the coffee shop complain that no employers ‘gets them’. When a baby eagle is finally ready to go out on its own the mother will nudge the young bird out of the nest hundreds of feet in cliff tops. The bird either flies or dies.
If you’re tired of not getting any dates and keep blaming all the men or women for different reasons, have you ever looked at yourself? Maybe Taylor Swift’s new album should be entitled ”Okay so maybe its me”. If you are always trying to get people to like you, why haven’t you been just creating a person that people will like to be around. And yes that means you may have to change your personality. ”But who I am is perfect! I was also taught that in school!”. Once again, lied to. You think anyone wants to be with a slob, narcissist, or unemployed druggie? “But I want someone who gets me for me!” Oh yeah? Well what if your current self isn’t good enough. So you’re still looking for that prince charming? That’s so strange since you don’t seem very much like a princesses…
The logic you must realize is the human self is VERY adaptable. We can change our appearance, habits, thoughts, and even our brain’s neuron connections. You are who you are because that’s who you wanted to be. No excuses. What will you be remembered for? We will all eventually succumb to life leaving only our creations and deeds. There is a saying that declares we have two deaths. One on the day we die and the second on the last time anyone ever says our name.
