Setting up your website can be a daunting task. Not only do you have to make it convert customers, but your customers also need to be able to find you in the first place! Here's why the information below is so important; if you're not optimizing your site to attract and convert customers, your competitors are.
You're busy doing what you do best and may not have time to research web marketing. So we've put together a short list of website 'must haves' for noobs you can add to your site today.
SEO stands for search engine optimization. It's basically the practice of getting your webiste ranked at the top of Google search results. Have you ever tried Googling about your type of website? Those businesses at the top of the page are doing a great job at SEO. They are the first ones being clicked by most of the customers. Don't worry, you can get there too!
2. Customer Friendly Design
What first impression do your potential customers get when first visiting your page? Does it look cheap or untrustworthy? A customer-friendly design is accomplished by having the right balance of quality pictures, text, and layout that's easy for the customer to tell what's going on.
A clean look to shoot for is a website that is simple to navigate, consistent with colors, and makes it easy for your customer to find the right service. The difference between a confused and lost customer or a happily converted one can be as simple as the layout.
3. Have the Right Message
Your potential client needs to feel they are in the exact place they should be to get their needs met. People want to know what your service is and what it does for them. They can decide that within the first couple of seconds, so it's imperative to have a clear message that builds trust and radiates the professional that you are. Your message is connected with having a good design described above. A concise message is hardly effective with a poor layout and vice versa.
4. Have a Clear CTA
A term you should get to know very well is CTA (call to action). This concept will really put a fire in your customer's belly. They've found you, navigated your layout, and understood your message. However, all this won't matter unless they call or apply for your service! This can be as simple as an "Apply for a Free Quote" button at the top of the page that links your customer to your information. A money producing call to action communicates to the customer exactly what they should do next to get their needs met.
5. Putting it all together: A Landing Page Your Customer Loves
What's a landing page? It's the first page your customer 'lands' on when visiting your site. This is your flagship page, the one that communicates the most to the customer by saying the least. To make a great landing page, just combine the elements of 1-4 above. Your landing page is that first impression to everyone and you only have one shot to make it a good one. When your landing page is set up right, you get found more easily on Google. After that, your clean design, clear message, and tempting CTA bring home some serious leads.
Hopefully you've got some great ideas from the list above. This is by no means an exhaustive list of details, but a mere guideline to get you started. Just remember, your website is meant to be doing the work for you. Get your site set up right and you can fully concentrate on satisfying your customers as they are converted on your site.
